So, here's some of what I was trying to send from my phone, minus the pics, plus more than what I could type in the message.
School has started at our house! Like I'm the only one though, right? That seems to be what everyone says at the beginning of the school year, lol. So, anyways. This year is going lots better. I spent a few weeks meticulously planning lessons (therefore causing my house to feel unloved), and started on Aug 17th, with both girls. I spent around a month preparing and gathering and praying, then a few weeks planning lessons for Faith. Didn't really get to pencil in Trinity's lesson plans, but that's okay, because we've been doing fine figuring it out as we go along. A lot easier to do with Kindergarten! LOL.
With Faith, I'm using a combination of different curriculum for teaching her: A Beka, Bob Jones, some late 19th - early 20th century text books (printed for free again this year via Google and HomeSchoolFreebieoftheDay.com. I love those two! I know there are a few more places to get free stuff, but those are the two main ones I'm using right now.
For Trinity, I'm using just A Beka right now. She's doing awesome! She just turned 4 in April, so I know she's a little ahead, but that's okay. She has an unquenchable desire to learn. She is doing K5 work right now, and is moving rather quickly. So much so, that I wonder, 'if she finishes this stuff before the end of the school year, should I go on to 1st grade work, when she's already a year ahead for her age?' Well, rather than worry to much about what the future holds, I'll just see what happens when we get there. That's all I have done up to this point, just going with her flow of what she's ready and wanting to handle.
So, she's learning to write her letters and numbers more accurately and legibly; learning short vowel sounds and reading 3 letter words (occasionally some bigger ones); and counting correctly from 13-20 (she would usually leave out 15 and maybe 17, but got all the rest from 1-20 right). She's already trying to keep counting past 20 whenever we practice counting! LOL.
Faith is doing significantly better with math this year already. She's really not needing much of my help at all, actually wanting to do her math lessons on her own! And, absolutely no tears! I'm so happy for her! We are even managing to move a little faster then what I had scheduled for some of the lessons! Which I think is great, partly because, right now we are working on some of the areas she has been struggling with the last couple of years, and then we will move one. At this rate, it looks like we might get to jump on ahead a little bit sooner!
I am also trying to learn how to incorporate copywork. Still trying to get that right, because I still know very little about it. I have had her copying verses from Proverbs, and occasionally some of her reading assignments and parts of her history reading.
We are also back working at the greenhouse in the mornings (where Faith can do some of her reading assignements there). Then, we come home around noon, have lunch, then do school, chores, dinner, baths, church on Wednesdays, and bed. Oh, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, we have 4-H. And, good news, Faith got elected reported this year! YAY!
Both girls also will be entering exhibits in the State Fair again this year! I will post more on those later.
