First, I started a new job in March, working at a green house for a man from my church. It's awesome because I can be flexible with my schedule, and take my girls! Lots of learning experiences there! Animals, plants, bugs, responsibility, dealing with customers, cash register & money, etc.
Then, I moved to a new house at the beginning of April, and have been trying to juggle getting unpacked (still no where near finished, of course) with work, church, kids, Trinity's birthday party, and the list goes on.
So, here's a couple of things we have had happen, homeschool-wise, the last few months.
The girls have experienced snakes, toads, and numerous bugs at the greenhouse, along with getting to help plant and water. Faith has asked questions about making change, how much money you would have in the register if you already had $60, a customer bought $17 in plants, and paid with a $20, along with other similar questions.
We've had two sparrows get in to our house last month, within days of each other. I believe this is because we have several birds nests around outside, in the eaves, the attic, above the porch, in the shutters, etc. LOL. It's fun and educational to watch the adult birds, listen to the babies, and then catch them when they find their way inside.
In April, I took the girls on a field trip to the Harn Homestead for '89er day. It was fun. They made flags to mark their plot in the mach land run, made rope, played with old-fashioned toys, etc.
The guy I work for found a couple of large caterpillars at the greenhouse, and gave them to Trinity because she loves that stuff, especially butterflies. I looked them up online twice, the first time discovering that they would be white lined sphinx moth/hummingbird moth. They weren't behaving as I expected, and so I looked up again, and discovered that they burrow in the ground to form their chrysalis. So, I quickly put them in to a pot of dirt. The first one was already dying, and didn't make it. The second pupated. He was there, until 2 days ago, when Faith discovered it was missing, chrysalis and all! I put it outside on the back patio, and didn't think to cover it, so I almost bet that one of the birds got it! I'm so disappointed, especially for Trinity when she finds out (if she remembers, hopefully she won't). I have to send off for some caterpillars anyways for her butterfly house I got her for Christmas anyways. Maybe that will make up for it? LOL.
My mom is also seeing someone, who happens to be my "boss" (it still never seems fitting to call him that, lol). They are doing awesome. Everyone thinks they are going to get married. So, we are probably all going to be going camping this month. I am so excited, seeing as how I haven't gone since Trinity was just a couple months old, and I used to go several times every year. It'll probably be for only one night, but still. The fact of going makes me happy! And we will find more learning experiences too!
Okay, to finish off this update for now, I'm planning on getting finished unpacking (at least to a more livable, comfortable state), and hopefully trying to catch up on a little "book work" school work with Faith, to cover things outside of hands-on science, lol. Soon, I suppose I need to start preparing for the upcoming school year. Since Trinity just turned 4, and she already knows her alphabet, numbers & counting, colors, shapes, and is starting to read small words, I will start working a little more with her on Pre-K/K stuff, as much as she is interested. Faith is turning 10 next month, and would be considered 5th next year. I hope and pray that she will be more cooperative this year.
My friend from church just graduated high school (she was a homeschooler also), and plays piano beautifully. She said she will give the girls lessons this summer before she heads to college in the fall. I know they will thoroughly enjoy that. I will try to post some pics soon.
Oh, I almost forgot this cool site! I got it from homeschoolfreebieoftheday.com. It is a field guide to homeschoolers. Even if you don't homeschool, you will find this very informative and entertaining. If you are a homeschooler, it looked to me that there is a lot of useful info on it. I haven't read through everything yet, but I plan to attempt some!
