Trinity's Learning to Read

I have posted about Faith a few times, now it's Trinity's turn.

Incase you don't know, Trinity is 3, and will be 4 at the end of April. I have been working with her some on her letters, learning letter sounds, and even sneaking in a little phonics sounds. She is catching on quite well. We have been working on the Alphabet Notebook, and are almost finished. When it's done, I will put up photos. She loves doing it, and actually asks to do school.

She has been learning a little bit about silent letters (as I sound things out for her, I will tell her "we don't hear that one, it makes this one say it's name... what's it's name?" of course I will replace "this one" and "that one" and "it's" with the proper letter's name),  and learned how sh says "shhh".

So, here's the big thing. I have a whole slew of alphabet and number magnets on my fridge. Today, she was wanting to spell words. So, I got down and started putting things together, sounding them out and asking her about their sounds. Out of habit, I started with "cat" and "dog". I quickly noticed that was a little above her. I remembered how the other day she learned how to spell "no". You can ask her how to spell the word, and she can tell you. She can even spell it with her magnets. So, I put together a couple of words. She learned how to spell them, and when I asked her later when we were playing with my new cel phone, she could spell, with a smidge of help, and then when I typed them in my phone, and asked her what the word was, she read them! The words she learned to spell today, and could read, are "hi" "no" "in" and "me". I am so excited for her!

Now, this is not something that I have forced on her at all. She has been eager to learn things since she was only a few months old. She watched Sesame Street, and I've always communicated with her, answered her questions, sang her the ABC's, explained things to her, etc. She's always wanting to learn, and trying to read, and do things for herself. So, I've just given her the things to help her satisfy this desire to learn. She is asking me all the time what different words start with. We will be driving down the road, and she will just ask about a random word. We can be anywhere, and she will see words, and ask what they say. If she sees words and numbers she recognizes, she eagerly wants to point them out to you and tell you what they are. She gets so excited about it. When she spelled "no" for the first time the other day, and read words for the first time today, and I told her what she just did, she got so excited, her face would just light up! So, since she is so eager, I am so excited that she is accomplishing this. I had a feeling she would start reading before her 4th birthday! It may only be a few words, but who knows how far she will take it now?
