Apple's Support of Gay Marriage

Here I was, informing everyone I could of Apple's financial support of gay marriage in California that I had read about in the news, and was going to post a blog on this because I noticed that so many Christians use Apple products. I don't personally. At first, it was various reasons such as, I don't care for Mac's (nothing against them, just my preference), and I can't use an iPhone because I have Sprint and am unwilling to change to AT&T because of my strong dislike for them (not to mention I've had Sprint for almost 6 years now, and the $ that I would have to pay if I broke my contract). Then, I just so happen to read in the news how Apple donated $100,000 to the opposition of Proposition 8. Not only am I strongly opposed to gay marriage, but also to the fact that now that the voters decided, people are trying to get the courts to overturn that! That is awful, because if that were to happen, than that undermines the foundations of this country! That would give the government the idea that they DO have total control over the citizens of this country, and that even if the people vote for something, our opinions don't matter, it can be overturned. No one should ever want that!

Okay, next point (this isn't a blog about gay marriage, but about Christians who are opposed to it not financially supporting it). In my search on Google for articles about Apple's donation, I found one that upset me: that not only did Apple donate, but so did Google! WHAT!? I didn't know of this before, never saw an article on this! I have become quite the fan of Google products over the last year (this blog, Picasa, Google Chrome, Gmail, calendar, and just this month, a Google Android phone which I love). So, here I was going to not send my money to Apple and support their fight, but to find out that I just financially supported it anyways, unknowingly, this month! I had recently said that I can't help it if I don't know where a company supports it, and I didn't. I really like my new phone.

What can I do? I'm not going to just throw my hands up and join the enemy. And I know that my personal boycott of anything is not going to put a dent in their company at all. But, I know that God tells us to do what is right, and not associate with ungodly people, etc. (in regards to that: that we are supposed to be friendly to the ungodly people, showing them the love of Christ in the same way He did that brought them in to a relationship with The Father, but not to "hang out" with them, doing what they do or supporting what they do, etc). Financially supporting these company's is supporting these things. Christians should stand against that. I'm not saying to argue and fight over the issues, just to not associate ourselves with it. I'm to tired to look it up right now, but just a few days ago I read something in Acts about how Paul and the other apostles would not argue with the people in the temple who didn't believe, they didn't try to force anything on them, they just left and would privately meet and hold church in their own home. So, here's some of my thoughts:

* I know that me alone, or all even of us together (Christians) are not going to be able to change the direction this world is going in (including homosexuality and gay marriage), we all know what the Bible says is going to happen, it's inevitable, nothing is going to change that. We just have to put up (to a certain extent) with the world we live in. That doesn't mean we shouldn't oppose sin, shouldn't do what's right, or that we shouldn't bring people to God. I'm not saying that at all. Read on:

* There are so many people, products (once I get my hands on the article again, I will post more on it, about Pepsi-co supporting equality and gay rights, etc, which includes Gatorade, Frito-Lay, & Quaker), and companies that support ungodly, worldly things, what should we expect from worldly companies anyways? Can we possibly avoid all of them?

* I don't particularly care for monopolies. Look at what they've done to our economy! Hardly any mom & pop business can be successful because of them, and that's not right. (But than again, it's the worldly stuff again.) I am even forced to go with some of them whether I like it or not, such as Wal-Mart, Cox cable, and even Google. I'm sure there are more. So, the same thought can be applied to this situation with Apple & Google. Here's another one: I try to avoid using the monopoly companies as much as possible and resort to them only when I have to. I can apply this same idea here.

*Last thought. God tells us not to store up treasures here on earth, and not to be concerned with the things of this world. Google, Apple, Pepsi (which I don't drink anyways because it makes me sick to my stomach) & Wal-Mart are things of this world. The fight for gay rights is a thing of this world. The enemy will try to use these things to distract us from what really matters: keeping our focus on the Lord. If we get so caught up in trying to boycott every business that has something we oppose, refusing to EVER use their services, etc, we will be having to be watchful 24/7 of everything we use, everywhere we go, every product we buy, etc. When will we have time for God? The enemy will still have won in getting our eyes off of  the Lord! (Oh, I had another thought & verse come to mind while typing this, and I lost it. Too tired I suppose.)

So, I will boycott where I can (& I hope other Christians will do the same. Even if the big companies don't know we do it, God does, the enemies of God will [Eph 6:12 "For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood (contending only with physical opponents), but against the despotisms, against the powers, against (the master spirits who are) the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere"], and we will), and I will use what I have to, when I have to, without changing my opinion against that of God's.
