Hello, and welcome to my new blog! I've seen enough of the other HSing mothers with really cool blogs about their homeschool happenings, that I couldn't resist anymore, and decided I would try my own.
So, I will start by telling about me & my family, just in case you don't already know.
I'm a single, STAH, WAH, homeschooling mom. I believe in hands-on & attachment parenting, and raising my kids by the Bible. I dedicated my girls to God Christmas 2005.
My girls are Faith, 9 y/o, and Trinity, 3 y/o. Faith has had some health difficulties when she was younger, that have improved significantly over the years, including intestinal problems and eczema, which have improved, and asthma and lactose intolerance. She is still on a special diet. Trinity has had problems since 2 days old, and they continue. She has GERDS, which has caused many problems, especially with difficulty for the first year of life with poor medical care from Dr's who wouldn't treat her. She got tubes before her first birthday, and though they have fallen out, her ears are extremely sensitive to sound and frequently bother her. She also has intestinal trouble, heat sensitivity, asthma, not to mention sensitive skin! She also has a very strict diet, and continues medication. I am also somewhat of a health nut, and love homeopathic, natural alternatives, and use different things for her, along with trying to find more. We have changed so many of our cooking habits and what we eat, and therefore I am constantly experimenting with GERDS friendly recipes (that are also high fiber, low fat, sometimes organic &/or lactose free). Perhaps I will post some occasionally!
Hopefully I will one day find a good Dr who will provide both girls with the medical care they need. I know full well that I am blessed, and that they could have problems that are much worse, and there are families out there that do deal with it. So, I never take that for granted, despite the struggles we do go through.
Okay, on to homeschooling! This is our second year, and so far is going much better than last. Faith went to school from K-2nd, because I had no choice at the time, though I preferred homeschooling. I was homeschooled from 4th-graduation. Last year, we tried Bob Jones, and I quickly learned that Faith's learning style was NOT that of sit down book work. She can only so much, before she and I both are frustrated to tears. So, I spent a lot of time learning about just how she learns, and what I could use to teach her. Not to mention, getting her out of the public school frame of mind, and getting used to spending this much time together again. I missed it, frustrations and all. So, even though I'm still finding more info and resources, and still assembling my method's and everything, I have figured out a lot, and things are doing lots better.
So, my chosen method is eclectic. In it, I am using unschooling, unit studies, lap books (just started this week), some classic, and going to try to include some great books. Like I said, still getting it all together! LOL.
Trinity has always blown me away. At around 3-6 months, she was showing signs that she wanted to communicate. Once she got her tubes, she really began talking. Before her 2nd birthday, she could sing the alphabet, recognize most of her letters, count to 10, and almost to twenty. Now, she is showing that she wants to read. I do not believe in forcing a child to learn when they are not ready. She has done this on her own. I turned on Sesame Street when she was a baby, and she absorbed quicker than a sponge! Faith and I both learned from Sesame Street since babyhood, and my mom even remembers watching the first episode. So, anyways, I am working with Trinity as much as she is interested and capable.
Okay, so I know I've put enough about us. Hopefully I told enough, and not to much about us!
Hey, Christi! Good to see you in the blogging world! Maybe I'll see you in the real world sometime soon! :)
